Interesting Facts about Lefkada:

Lefkada is often called the “Caribbean of Greece” thanks to its white-sand beaches and turquoise waters.

The island is the birthplace of the ancient poet Sappho, whose dramatic life ended at Cape Lefkatas on the island’s southern tip.

Thanks to its consistent winds, Vasiliki Bay is ranked among the top windsurfing spots in Europe.

Despite its fame, Lefkada retains a sense of authenticity — inland villages still follow traditional ways of life, with embroidery from Karya and lentils from Englouvi being local specialties.

Famous for their crystal-clear turquoise waters and dramatic white cliffs, Lefkada’s beaches are consistently ranked among the best in Europe. Choosing a luxury villa in Lefkada puts you just moments away from these natural wonders, combining privacy and comfort with access to some of the most breathtaking shorelines in the Mediterranean.

Arguably the most famous beach on the island, Porto Katsiki is framed by towering cliffs that drop into brilliant blue waters. Its name means “Goat’s Port,” once thought accessible only by nimble goats, but today it’s easily reached by steps carved into the cliff.

Stretching for more than two kilometres, Egremni is one of Lefkada’s longest and most spectacular beaches. Recently reopened with improved access, its sweeping sands and vivid waters make it a favorite for those who prefer space and tranquility.

For those who enjoy a livelier atmosphere, Kathisma Beach is ideal. Lined with beach bars, tavernas, and sunbeds, it offers a mix of comfort and excitement against a backdrop of sparkling Ionian waters. Adventurers can try paragliding here, soaring over the bay for unforgettable views.

Best known for its world-class windsurfing, Vasiliki Bay combines natural beauty with action and energy. Families and water sports enthusiasts flock here for safe swimming, sailing, and lessons in windsurfing or paddleboarding.

Tucked away near Vasiliki, Agiofili Beach is smaller and more intimate, perfect for couples and those seeking a romantic escape. Its waters are famously clear, making it a hotspot for snorkelling.

The island’s capital, Lefkada Town, is a vibrant hub where Venetian heritage meets modern island life. Its maze of colourful alleyways, lively squares, boutique shops, and waterfront cafés is perfect for evening strolls and leisurely dinners overlooking the marina.

Life on the water is central to any trip here. Vasiliki Bay attracts windsurfers from across Europe thanks to its reliable winds, while Nydri is the gateway to sailing, kayaking, and private boat hire. Exploring the coastline by boat reveals hidden coves, secret beaches, and offshore gems like Meganissi, where time seems to stand still.

Inland, a very different Lefkada unfolds. Mountain villages such as Karya and Englouvi are steeped in tradition, offering shady squares, rustic tavernas, and a glimpse into authentic Greek island culture. Hiking trails wind through olive groves and pine forests, with highlights like the Dimosari Waterfalls providing a refreshing stop on warm summer days.

Foodies will find plenty to indulge in too, from freshly caught fish served at seaside tavernas to local specialties like Englouvi lentils, artisan cheeses, and sweet honey, all best enjoyed with a crisp Ionian wine.

For unforgettable moments, few places rival Cape Lefkatas at sunset, where dramatic cliffs drop into the endless blue of the Ionian Sea. It’s a setting that captures the island’s raw beauty and one that lingers.
