The south-facing garden and extensive grounds merge seamlessly into the fields beyond, thus extending the sense of space. From the first floor of the house, you can see the sea; the nearest sandy beaches are a short drive away at the edge of the Mondrago National Park.
Natural stone walls, cool flagstone floors and wooden beams are paired with funky furnishings such as tree-trunk tables, driftwood pieces, abstract art and thick-weave rugs in natural dyes. All the bedrooms, finished in a neutral palette, are calm and spacious. Three, including the master, are on the first floor, and two are on the ground floor. One is a children’s room with bunk beds; the other has French doors opening to its own garden pergola. The living room has sofas and a hanging swing chair; the dining room seats up to 10 and has large doors opening to the terrace; there’s filtered water on tap in the kitchen.
There’s a covered al fresco dining area and summer kitchen with barbecue and a separate chill-out lounge area, set back under the stone terrace with floaty white drapes. A small vegetable plot supplies some fresh produce in season. Deckchairs, cushioned loungers and a canopied Bali daybed are ranged around the pool terrace. There’s a 12m mosaic-tiled infinity pool and a hot tub. Steps lead down to well-kept lawns enclosed by Mediterranean shrubs and trees. For some gentle activity, there’s a bocce ball court on the grounds.
